At long last

Mackeral have arrived at Deal Pier with a fair number caught from the lower deck and the pier stem this morning. Let`s hope it continues. We are still seeing a few smoothound, doggies and pouting and yesterday evening one angler, fishing the lower deck 1919 side had three sizeable bass. The largest was 3 lb. Bait was live prawn

Every month we run a Fish of the Month competition on the pier. Here`s how it works. If an angler catches a fish that he thinks is in with a chance of being the largest fish caught he gets the duty pier attendant to weigh it and complete a f.o.t.m. form. This is then displayed in the office window. If a heavier fish is then caught a new form is completed and replaces the one displayed. At the end of the month the winner is the angler who has caught the heaviest fish and he receives a cheque for £25, donated by Dover District Council.

Winner of the June F.O.T.M. was a thornback ray weighing 4.920 kg (11 lbs) caught by Cairbry Hill of Dulwich, London

Message from a Happy Angler

My son (Kallum) and I caught the fish which is fish of the month a few weeks back.

Just to say this was our first visit to Deal Pier and it was the most successful days fishing I have ever had with my Son, not only did we catch the Ray but we also stopped counting Dog Fish after the first 15 landed and a couple of good sized pouting also.

One of the nicest friendliest places we have ever fished, we will be back soon, without a doubt.
